Terms of Use

Effective July 19, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Scoutbite mobile application and this website (together, "the Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. What Scoutbite is (and isn't)

Scoutbite helps you understand packaged food. It scores products and summarizes ingredient information using publicly available data and published scientific and regulatory sources.

Scoutbite is not medical, nutritional, or allergy advice.Scores, grades, avoid-list flags, and ingredient summaries are informational opinions generated from third-party data. They may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for a specific product, and they are no substitute for reading the physical label or consulting a qualified professional. Never rely on the Service for allergen safety decisions: always check the manufacturer's label.

2. Third-party data

Product information comes primarily from Open Food Facts, a community-maintained database available under the Open Database License. We don't control and can't guarantee its accuracy or completeness. Baby-food heavy-metal test results referenced in the app are published by the manufacturers themselves under California law (AB 899); Scoutbite links to those pages and does not verify, endorse, or characterize their contents.

3. Your account

Creating an account (via Sign in with Apple or Google) is optional. You are responsible for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app's settings, which removes your synced data as described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Scoutbite Pro subscriptions

5. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the Service: no scraping at scale, no reverse engineering except where the law allows it, no interfering with the Service or its providers, and no use of the Service to defame any manufacturer or brand. The app's scores are Scoutbite's opinions; don't present them as anyone else's.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including the Scoutbite name, logo, scores, and design, is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on your devices. Open Food Facts data remains subject to the Open Database License.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that scores or product data are accurate, complete, or current.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scoutbite and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, health outcome, or purchasing decision, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

9. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may change or discontinue features at any time. We may update these Terms; the date above reflects the latest version, and material changes will be noted in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Florida, unless the law of your place of residence requires otherwise.
