Is Scoutbite free?

Yes. Scanning, scores, and swap suggestions are free forever, and the free history keeps your last 100 scans. Scoutbite Pro ($3.99/month or $24.99/year with a 7-day free trial) adds cloud sync, unlimited history, custom lens weights, a personal avoid list, and household profiles.

How is the score calculated?

Every product is scored 0–100 across four lenses: nutrition, additives, processing level (NOVA), and seed oils. A high-risk additive or a named seed oil caps the total, so a great nutrition panel can't hide a bad ingredient. Every weight is visible in settings, and Pro lets you re-weight the lenses to match your priorities. Read the full scoring methodology →

Do I need an account?

No. Scanning, scores, and history all work without one — your scan log lives on your phone. A free account only becomes useful with Pro, which syncs your history and settings across devices.

Where does the product data come from?

Open Food Facts, the community-run database behind millions of products. Nothing is sponsored and no brand can pay for a better score. If you spot a data error you can fix it on Open Food Facts, and Scoutbite picks up the correction.

What if a product isn't in the database?

Barcodes that Open Food Facts doesn’t know yet show a friendly empty state instead of a made-up score. You can type the barcode to double-check the scan, and because the database is community-run, new products are added constantly.

What’s the baby-food safety feature?

California’s AB 899 law requires baby-food makers to test every batch for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury and publish the results. Scan a baby food and Scoutbite links you straight to the manufacturer’s own published numbers.

Does Scoutbite work offline?

Your history and settings live on your phone and are always available. Looking up a product you haven’t scanned before needs a connection to reach Open Food Facts.

How do I cancel Pro?

Subscriptions are billed and managed by the App Store or Google Play, not by us — cancel anytime in your store’s subscription settings. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription. Step-by-step instructions on the support page →
